The ‘unusual’ locations are the ones that you don’t normally associate with horror – an office building, or a playground. These kinds of settings haven’t been used as much, and your reader doesn’t go in knowing what is going to happen next. When the horrid and unexpected happens, the shock value is all the greater, and to my mind much scarier. The downside to this kind of setting is that you will have to work harder to create a scary mood. However, don’t be afraid to attempt it, because if you succeed, it will be much more effective. Wife's Story

-"Our youngest, the little one, my baby, she turned from her father. Just overnight. He come in and she got scared-looking, stiff, with her eyes wide, and then she begun to cry and try to hide behind me. She: didn’t yet talk plain but she was saying over and over, “Make it go away! Make it go away!"

This quote is an example of the unusual because earlier in the story the wife said that her husband was always so gentle and now it's being said that his child is scared of her father. This is unusual because for the most part we need a reason to be afraid of something.

- " ...we’d all been asleep some while, when something woke me up. He wasn’t there beside me. I heard a little stir in the passage, when I listened. So I got up, because I could bear it no longer. I went out into the passage, and it was light there, hard sunlight coming in from the door. And I saw him standing just outside, in the tall grass by the entrance. His head was hanging. Presently he sat down, like he felt weary, and looked down at his feet. I held still, inside, and watched — I didn’t know what for."

This quote is an example of the unusual because it is strange for someone tired to get out of bed and just sit outside the house, then look at their feet. How often does a person awake in the middle of the night to something that is not even there and then sit outside.

The Strange Case of Dr.Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

CHAPTER ONE~ "I never saw a man I so disliked, and yet I scarce know why. He must be deformed somewhere; he gives a strong feeling of deformity, although I couldn’t specify the point. He’s an extraordinary-looking man, and yet I really can name nothing out of the way.

CHAPTER TWO~ "Dr. Jekyll’s ‘disappearance or unexplained absence for any period exceeding three calendar months,’ the said Edward Hyde should step into the said Henry Jekyll’s shoes without further delay and free from any burthen or obligation, beyond the payment of a few small sums to the members of the doctor’s household."

CHAPTER THREE~ "‘I don’t ask that,’ pleaded Jekyll, laying his hand upon the other’s arm; ‘I only ask for justice; I only ask you to help him for my sake, when I am no longer here.’ "

CHAPTER FOUR~ "for Mr. Hyde had numbered few familiars — even the master of the servant-maid had only seen him twice; his family could nowhere be traced; he had never been photographed; and the few who could describe him differed widely, as common observers will. Only on one point, were they agreed; and that was the haunting sense of unexpressed deformity with which the fugitive impressed his beholders."

CHAPTER FIVE~ "‘Well, sir,’ returned the clerk, ‘there’s a rather singular resemblance; the two hands are in many points identical: only differently sloped.’ "

CHAPTER SIX~ "Much of his past was unearthed, indeed, and all disreputable: tales came out of the man’s cruelty, at once so callous and violent; of his vile life, of his strange associates, of the hatred that seemed to have surrounded his career; but of his present whereabouts, not a whisper.

I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream

The story is about a super computer touring the remaining the human race after world destruction. The story it self is usual because the likelihood of a super computer becoming self aware and touring the human race is unlikely. And the thought is scary because it wouldn't happen now but who knows with the technological advances we have already had I can only imagine what the future will bring.
